The most populous municipality of the county, it had 48,231 residents at the 2010 United States Census, with an estimated population of 64,484 as of 2019. This quickly growing community has been able to keep its small-town feel through preserving the quaint downtown area while adding a shopping district to the north, and embracing its trail system. Castle Rock is known for its community feel and year-round community events. It has become a destination spot for many Coloradans with the Outlet Mall, and the new addition of “the MAC” which has trails, zip lines, stair climb, an indoor pool, an amphitheater with concerts, and soon to be added year-round snow tubing and conference center! Castle Pines is located on the north end of Castle Rock, known for its rolling hills, Mature pine trees, and award-winning schools. It is also home to the only gated community in the area which is Castle Pines Village
Nearly a mid-point between Denver and Colorado Springs, Larkspur is a small town with some unique offerings. The Douglas County town of nearly 300 people within the town limits and is located eleven miles south of Castle Rock. Several neighborhoods can be found in the Larkspur area (not included in the town population count) including Bear Dance, Sage Port, and Perry Park. There are 2 golf courses in these areas as well as trails for hiking, biking, and horses!
Franktown, and Elizabeth are located 40 minutes south east of Denver and serrated by 7 miles of ranches and rolling hills. Denver’s 9NEWS reported that over 80% of area residents commute to Denver and Colorado Springs for work. Known for its open spaces and a rural setting, Elizabeth is home to just over 1,500 people, which is the most populous city in Elbert county. In contrast, Franktown with half the population is the smallest town in Douglas County. Both are quickly growing communities, Elizabeth is known for the lower prices, lower taxes, and more rural living.
